5 Days in Ubud, Bali

5 Days in Ubud, Bali

Hello everyone and welcome in other article where I’m taking you with me in another wonderful part of the island : Ubud. Are you ready to discover it with me? Let’s go!!

Location

Ubud is located in « the middle » of the island at approximately 2hours from Canang Sari Villa and Uluwatu. By car, it’s going to be a little bit longer (around 3hours)

Day 1 :

On the first day, I just took the time to have a lunch and to visit the area.  Landscapes in Ubud are amazing and very different from Uluwatu and Kuta/Seminyak. This city is located in the forest so you can be sure you are going to see a lot of monkeys, creepers etc.. which give you a change of scene for sure. I decided to visit the rice terraces which are everywhere overthere. You can walk in them or just see them from the road. Personnaly, i recommend you to have a lunch or just a drink with the view on it. it's just breathtaking

Day 2 :

The second day was the first complete day in Ubud. We left the hotel early in the morning to go to Jatiluwih Rice Terraces Trail which is part of the Unesco National Parks. We booked a personal guide for a total of around 500K/day. At the price, he took us to a special trip and this natural park, showing us the best places. We had the chance to see the beautiful terraces and landscapes that are completely different than the « usual » Bali that everybody knows (the more touristic one). We loved to walk in the middle of the terraces and meet the locals who are so welcoming and nice. This is definitely the place not to be missed if you come to Ubud!

Informations : the entrance costs 40K

Day 3 :

Our guide took us to discover a coffee plantation which is definitely a thing to do in this part of the island. There are a lot of them so don’t be worried, it is very easy to find.  The locals will explain the process of coffee creation and why there are so many of them. You will be able to taste a selection of a dozen of coffee and tea. You will also have the chance to taste the most expensive coffee in the world and how is it prepared which is ….. I can not say anything more, just come and discover it by yourself, you won't regret it!!!

Informations : all of this is free! Then, they will show you their coffee and tea shops where you can buy tea/coffee bagds  for around 300K-600K

On the afternoon, we went to see different waterfalls which are also very typical from Ubud. They are so many of them in this area : it’s just something to see. Time for Instagram posts!!

Informations : the entrance costs between 20K-40K

Day 4 :

We kept our guide to go to the Hot Springs, which are hot swimming pools located and heated thanks to the Mount Batur, an active volcano where you can also do a night trek to see the sunrise at the top of it.

Informations : the entrance costs 50K and the access to the pool 300K

Day 5 :

On the last day, we left Ubud to go to the northern part of Island, Lovina, which is really famous for…. The dolphins and the coral reefs. It starts at 6am or 8:30. You can see the sunrise and after that the boat drives you to see the dauphins swimming. After that, the driver will show you the coral reef where you'll be able do snorkeling!!

Informations : several prices are available depending on what you would like to do/see. Between 150K-250K

Uluwatu Temples

                                                                         Uluwatu Temples

Uluwatu Temple : the Uluwatu Temple is perched on top of a steep cliff approximately 70 metres above sea level. Also known as Pura Luhur, it’s one of the main temples in Uluwatu and it’s definitely a place to see.

Location: at only 10minutes in Scooter from Canang Sari Villas (4km).

(The blue point : Canang Sari Villas)

Price: 1,000 IDR for the parking - 50,000 IDR to enter in the Temple - 100,000 to enjoy the Uluwatu Temple Kecak dance show (entrance not included)

Rules: to enter in the temple, you have to cover your knees (if it’s not the case, they will give you a a sarong or a sash). Things to know : if you are menstruating, you won’t be able to enter.

The Temple: Most travelers enjoy the view of this temple from two different points, from both northern and southern part of the area. The temple is pretty huge and you also have an amazing walk in the forest and on the cliffs. You’ll definitely enjoy the incredible view, especially for the sunset.

The Monkeys: in this temple, the monkeys are everywhere so be extremely careful with what you wear (avoid/protect your glasses, your hat/cap and hold your phone tight)

Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park:  Mandala Garuda Wisnu Kencana, or Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK), is a cultural park devoted to the Hindu God Vishnu, and his mount, Garuda, the mythical bird who became his companion.

Location : at 15 minutes in scooter from Canang Sari Villas (7,8km).

(The blue point : Canang Sari Villas)

Price: 125,000 IDR for adults and 100,000 IDR for children. This price include the access to the all park, the shuttle, a drink at the end of the visit.

The Park : enjoy the breathtaking statues (the biggest one, the Garuda Wisnu Kencana, is even taller than the Statue Of Liberty in New York City and you can see it even in Canggu and Seminyak). Traditional Dance Shows take place all day in the different areas of the park (amphitheaters, open-air …) and you can even find concerts (festivals) over there.

Things to know before coming in Bali

  1. The Traffic - Le traffic

One thing to know before coming in Bali, is that the traffic here is very thick, extremely thick. The traffic jams are everywhere, especially on the south of the island (Kuta, Canggu, Denpasar …). Travelling short distances usually takes longer than expected (mostly with a car). Remember to plan ahead your movements (to get to the airport for example) to avoid unpleasant surprises

This might be a surprise to you, or it might not be, but in Bali they drive on the left hand side. This means that if you come from a country where you drive on the right hand side, you should be extra careful, not only when driving yourself, but also when crossing the street.

Personally, we recommend you to rent a scooter during stay. It will be a time saver for sure

Directly at Canang Sari Villas, we propose you to rent a scooter :

Scooter price list:

  • N-max all new : 200K  per day
  • N-max old : 150K per day
  • Yamaha Lexy : 120K per day
  • Scoopy : 100K per day
  • Vario 125cc : 100K per day
  • Vario 150cc : 120K per day

For a private driver, please ask the customer service.

  • N-max all new : 200K  par jour
  • N-max old : 150K par jour

2.Phone Package and useful apps Forfait tรฉlรฉphonique et applications utiles

First of all, you should know that in Bali, all establishments (restaurants, shopping centers, hotels, guesthouses) offer a free and rather efficient wifi connection. If you want to buy a phone package (calls, text messages and internet) you will find dedicated shops everywhere, with variable prices depending on how much GB you want.

Useful apps:

  • Gojek and Grab : « Indonesian Uber » (food and transport)
  • VPN : useful for a long stay
  • GetYourGuide : this app proposes you a selection of activities you should do, depending on the destination you enter
  • Maps Me proposes to download maps (Bali for example) that you will be able to use without Internet.

3. Drinkable  water in Bali -  L’eau potable ร  Bali

In Bali, don’t drink or use tap water! That includes steering clear of more than you might think, including ice in drinks, brushing your teeth with tap water, ingesting water in the shower, and food that has been washed in tap water. You’ll find in every hotels, mineral water bottles and a water dispenser. In supermarkets, the price varies from 3 000 IDR to 24 000 IDR.

However, there are some details to know and some precautions to take :

  • Drink only on new bottles. Never drink on a bottle that is already opened ‍
  • Don’t ask or accept ice cubes. Even if it’s refreshing, they are often made with tap water and can be infected. If you already have ice cubes in your drink, try to take them out
  • Avoid eating salad in restaurants (lettuce can be washed in tap water)
  • No worries about the fruits and vegetables you can peel

4.  - Local Culture and Restaurants - Culture et Restaurants locaux

In Bali, ceremonies and rites are very present everywhere on the island and often rhythm the days, for our greatest happiness. It will allow you to discover the Balinese culture whether it is if you stay with the local people or if you just go in the street, at the merchants, in the temples. The Balinese have the custom of making many offerings to the Gods (there are more than 1,000 of them and they also pray Demons to keep a certain balance and that some are not jealous of others). A religious culture very present on the island and which is felt everywhere. You can also see temples everywhere (including the breathtaking Uluwatu temple at just 5-10min from Canang Sari Villa which offers a spectacular show at sunset with the Kecak Dance as a bonus)

Never crush the offerings placed on the ground, they are sacred and this would be perceived as a lack of respect

Do not hesitate to also go to small traditional restaurants on the side of the road. You will find cheap, tasty and very traditional meals there.

Our trip to ubud

๐ŸŒณ Our trip to ubud ๐ŸŒณ

Hello everyone! Today we want to share with you our first time in the paradisiac landscape of Ubud.

We stayed 3 days and we discovered many things that I can't wait to tell you ๐Ÿ˜„

First day :

We went to visit the monkey forest. This forest located in Ubud's center is a home for monkeys but also a sanctuary for the residents. Just to know, the entrance is 80 000 idr. In the forest, you can walk around wherever you want. This forest is full of baby monkeys up to the oldest ones. You can discover a timeless place with its flamboyant and tropical vegetation ๐ŸŒด. Below, a river flows along the forest, you will have the opportunity to take your best pictures in nature or even with monkeys if you are lucky ๐Ÿ™‰.

Be careful because our friends the monkeys can be aggressive. Don't look them in the eye and store your things well as I explained in a previous article. But don't worry, guards are present to watch over you and the monkeys. ๐Ÿ’

Second day :

We went to see the famous rice terrace of Tegallalang. A place full of beauty and culture, a breathtaking view, like a postcard! ๐Ÿ˜ We loved to walk in the middle of the rice terrace and meet the locals. This is definitely the place not to be missed if you come to Ubud! You will be able to observe the beautiful colors that the landscape offers while soaking up the Balinese culture. ๐ŸŒพ

Remember to bring a bottle of water, a hat and sunscreen because the sun is very strong and you can quickly become dehydrated.

After this magnificent discovery, we were hungry and went to eat in a coffee plantation. There are a lot of them over there. The locals will explain the process of coffee creation and the secret of the most expensive coffee in the world! Not to be missed! ๐Ÿ˜‹ We were able to taste a dozen of coffee and tea. Then, we swung in the middle of the jungle on this famous "swing", incredible. ๐ŸŒด

Third day :

For our last day, we got wet! We left early enough in the morning to go rafting! ๐ŸšฃTo get to the river we had to go down a lot of steps in the middle of the jungle, it was so picturesque. After this little walk, we arrived at the edge of the river and the rafting trip started. Lush vegetation, breathtaking waterfalls and thrills were all around us.๐Ÿ˜œ An activity that I highly recommend, very fun to do with family or friends.๐Ÿ’š
